WGSN, the renowned trend forecasting platform, has recently joined forces with the global colour authority, Coloro, to unveil the pivotal hues for the autumn/winter season of 2024/2025. The theme underpinning this colour forecast is "Acceleration," a concept brought to the forefront by these two organisations in a press release issued earlier this month.
As the climate crisis continues to usher in chaos and strange omens of decline, such as orange skies and green oceans, we are set to experience an acceleration of change, both positive and negative. Urgency, repair, and reassurance will become paramount in this new reality, as mirrored in our AW 25/26 colour palette. The key colours for this season are Celestial Yellow, Cherry Lacquer, Retro Blue, Neon Flare, and Future Dusk. To provide you with inspiration, here are some catwalk looks showcasing each of these trend colours.
🌟Celestial Yellow - 048-90-17
Described by trend researchers as a radiant, multisensory colour that is simultaneously restful and surreal, "Celestial Yellow" is a bright, pale yellow shade. This trend colour invokes associations with celestial bodies like the moon, stars, and sun, symbolising humanity's quest for reassurance, orientation, and a sense of belonging. This pale yellow hue was featured in the Spring/Summer 2024 collections of Lie, Pedro Del Hierro, Versace, and Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini.
🌟Cherry Lacquer - 159-23-15
Cherry Lacquer, much like Future Dusk, is poised to be the defining colour of 2025. It's a dark, mysterious shade with a luxurious aura, according to the colour institutes. While Future Dusk falls within the spectrum between blue and violet, Cherry Lacquer is a blend of black and red. This colour aligns with feelings of anger and insecurity that many are experiencing today, symbolising resistance and rebellion. On the catwalk, similar shades were seen in dreamy haute couture dresses by Zuhair Murad, and fashion giants like Gucci, Versace, Prada, and Bottega Veneta demonstrate how the colour can be incorporated into ready-to-wear collections. Designers and fashion houses have highlighted its suitability for (patent) leather garments.
🌟Retro Blue - 100-64-14
Retro Blue conveys a sense of warmth and joy. This "analogue" shade evokes the past, offering comfort and security in times of uncertainty, as people often find solace in the familiar and stable. Retro Blue plays on nostalgia, making it especially appealing to Generation Z, as highlighted by WGSN and Coloro.
🌟Neon Flare - 014-68-51
This intense, bright neon colour aligns with the contemporary concern about climate change and its impact on our planet, as noted by WGSN and Coloro. This AI-inspired colour has an igniting and stimulating effect, fueling a sense of collective urgency as we strive to unlock solutions to 'wicked problems.'
🌟Future Dusk - 129-35-1
WGSN and Coloro foresee this as a time of renewal and change, offering opportunities to address the economic and environmental challenges facing the world. "Future Dusk" represents the blend of darkness and hope, suggesting that, despite the hurdles ahead, there is always room for imagination and optimism for the future. This blue-purple hue also carries a heavenly and futuristic character, according to the institutes.
Prepare for the upcoming season by embracing these captivating colours that encapsulate the essence of an accelerating world.
